Map
[edit]Google Maps names the location pointed at as Great Monk Woods. It does not show where Epping Forest is. Could someone who knows add a diagram to show where the Forest is and its extent. QuentinUK (talk) 04:59, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- I've had a rather crude stab at it - the first time I've tried this sort of thing, so I won't be offended if anyone can do better. Also, I was unsure how to include it in the infobox; if anyone can assist, I'll be very grateful.
- BTW QuentinUK, Great Monk Wood is at the very heart of Epping Forest, so it's as good a place as anywhere to use as a location. As you can see, the Forest is a long straggly affair, almost continuous apart from the northern-most section above Epping. Perhaps we could do with a section detailing the various constituent areas of the Forest - maybe when there's a rainy day. Alansplodge (talk) 18:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Cattle Grazing and BSE
[edit]I have removed the "citation needed" tag from the sentance which states that cattle grazing by commoners ended in 1996 due to the BSE crisis. A consultation document produced by the City Corporation confirms this but does not explain why. My understanding is that cattle were turned out in the Forest for beef production. New BSE regulations meant that cattle had to be slaughtered before a certain age and they would fatten too slowly by forest grazing to meet this deadline. The search for a reference continues. Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge Image
[edit]The current image is take from the front of the house, in a pose that makes the historical nature of the building hard to discern (the beams having been painted over, and the setting not visible). Can I suggest use of this image, which is free for use (if attributed) and gives a much more accurate impression of the significance of the building. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1524048 (I have little experience with editing wikipedia, and am worried I'll do something wrong if I try and put this image up myself) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.86.158.102 (talk) 13:40, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- I agree and the photo is on Commons at [1] so I have added it. Dudley Miles (talk) 15:10, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Size confusion
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
I apologise if this is an error, but it seems to me that it is unclear as to whether Epping forest is 1728 hectares (in infobox) or 2400 as shown at the top of the article. 1728 hectares are SSSI, but it is quite confusing as it displays on google snippets as area of 1728. Is there a way to make it clearer? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anish Mariathasan (talk • contribs) 19:21, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- The first source describes the forest as "about 2400 hectares" with a further comment that describes the SSSI designation applying to "two thirds". On that basis, I'd think it would be supportable to change the infobox to match the lead. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 20:31, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- I have amended infobox; feel free to change it if it doesn't fit the bill. Alansplodge (talk) 13:32, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed - good change. Heptanitrocubane (talk) 20:32, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
